March 2019 ASR Diplomat of the Breed – R Haitian Legacy
Published Date: Mar 29, 2019
We are pleased to announce the March 2019 ASR Diplomat of the Breed sponsored by Freedman's is R Haitian Legacy (117931G). “Olaf” as he is affectionately known, is an American Saddlebred that teaches, promotes and most importantly positively impacts everyone around him.
As the “Lesson Horse Extraordinaire” of Harris Riding Academy in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Olaf is a 13-year old gray American Saddlebred that stands a beautiful 16.2 hands and has a larger than life personality. He has played a significant role in all of the breed promotion activities that earned Harris Riding Academy the 2018 ASHA Breed Ambassador World Champion Barn Award. Olaf has that innate Saddlebred Charm having never met a stranger and thrives on attention from all visitors. He quickly builds a rapport with the most timid of adults and even with the smallest children. He uses his charisma and love for people to place timid riders and visitors at ease. These wonderful character traits along with his beauty have made Olaf the first choice for breed promotion in the region. He has been the Breed Ambassador at the Southern Equine Expo for two years running and enthusiastically welcomes all new friends at the petting booth.
Olaf has demonstrated the adaptability and kind nature of the American Saddlebred introducing countless families, children, prospective riders and fans to the breed. Olaf knows his job and does it well! Whether it is stepping up for an Academy show, teaching lessons to new riders, participating in fitness classes or being the star of “Unicorn Camps” Olaf executes to perfection. In addition to all of this, he also hosts the visiting elementary schools where children learn about the anatomy of a horse along with petting and grooming him. The luckiest of visitors even get to take a mold of his hoof print as a keepsake!
Olaf through all of his community relations and diplomat activities still appears to understand his most important job of all being a Masnica Family member. Olaf has found himself to be the glue, the peace and the joy of a loving family riding the ever so unpredictable rollercoaster of life. From the day “his kids” Alex and Rae met him, it was love. Nine-year-old Rae is his biggest fan, and they have an extraordinary connection. Rae has explained to her family that Olaf is her best friend and she can tell him all her fears and worries, and he somehow makes everything better for her. Thirteen-year-old Alex enjoys taking care of him and loves helping at the barn. His parents have seen that for a boy that was very afraid of horses; Olaf has changed his outlook on what is indeed possible if you are willing to take a chance.
As Tammy “Maryland” Masnica shares, “To say that our family has been through a great deal of strife in the last couple of years is an understatement. No price can be placed on what this American Saddlebred has done for our family. He has brought us closer together and has helped us grow in more ways than I can count. For my children, he represents a shining light, a teacher and most importantly a best friend that captures all their concerns and worries. As a new parent, he was the answer to hope, completion, fulfillment, a family!”
The American Saddlebred Registry is proud to honor R Haitian Legacy for his contributions in breed promotion, service to the future generations of this industry and most importantly for being a testament to the breed as a horse that you can always depend on!
