The Flying Cross Horse Trials Young Horse Event last week in Skylight, Kentucky brought great success for the American Saddlebred and Half Saddlebred Young Sport Horses raised by Waypoint Farm. Kim Moore and Sterling Graburn of Waypoint Farm raise, train, and compete American Saddlebred, Dutch Harness and DHH x ASB crossbreds for sport disciplines, with a focus in combined driving, ridden dressage or eventing! It was a remarkable day that was a rich reward for the dedication this team has to their breeding program and supporting the American Saddlebred sport horse. Of the three horses they took to compete were a homebred Half Saddlebred yearling, Olenna WF, and a two year old American Saddlebred, Notoriously Merry WF, half sister of Moore's well known CH Good Deal.
Olenna WF, a Half-Saddlebred yearling by KWPN harness stallion Vanando A and out of American Saddlebred mare Roseglow, earned an 83.6% with highlights of an 8.7 on her trot and a 9.0 general impression. She won her class by 13 percentage points, and received the second highest score of the day!
Notoriously Merry WF, a 2 year-old American Saddlebred filly by Bobese and out of Highpoint's Queen Merry. She is a half sister to CH Good Deal an American Saddlebred gelding who was a champion in the show ring as a hunter country pleasure horse, who went on to succeed in combined driving and now competes in eventing for Kim Moore. She impressed the judge with with her nice angles, uphill build and “stunning head”, earning an 80.2%, with highlights of an 8.2 on her type and her trot and an 8.5 on her general impression. She came second in the class by only 1.2%, and earned the fifth highest score of the day.
From Waypoint Farm, "What an amazing day for us as breeders and selectors of young stock at Flying Cross Horse Trials in Skylight, KY! We took one entry each for the FEH 3 year-old, 2 year-old and yearling classes, our youngest two straight out of the field. While we handle our foals and young stock, teach them manner make and expect them to trust us and behave, nothing prepares them for a show atmosphere like, well, a show! All three of them absolutely blew us away with their willingness, adaptability and trust in us under pressure. And the results speak for themselves, with the two highest FEH scores of the day!"
