ASHBA Board Spotlight Q & A with Jenny Taylor

Published Date: Jun 23, 2021

Learn more about one of the leaders at the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association (ASHBA). Follow us each week as we share these Q & A's with each member of our board of directors! You'll learn their history with the breed and how they want to make a positive difference for the American Saddlebred.

Name: Jenny Taylor

Location: Medina, Ohio

How did you get started with the American Saddlebred? My father had Saddlebreds before I was born and I was grew up loving them and being involved with the breed. I showed as a junior exhibitor and after two years of college went into the industry professionally working first for George Knight.

What is your involvement with the American Saddlebred currently? I currently operate Memory Lane Farm in Ohio with my husband Jim Taylor where we raise American Saddlebred and Morgan show horses.

Why are you passionate about serving on the ASHBA board? I’ve always felt that it doesn’t do any help to complain or comment about the state of something if you are not willing to get involved and roll your sleeves up to try and make it better. My passion is to be involved to preserve and increase the breeding side of our industry. I serve on the board in effort to make every contribution I can to help sustain the American Saddlebred breed.

What other industry boards &/or committees have you served before? I have served on the American Saddlebred Horse Association, American Saddlebred Registry, United Professional Horsemen Association, United Breeders Committee and other regional and Morgan leadership boards.

What is your vision for bettering the breed through serving on the ASHBA board?

I think it is important to be on the board if you have a passion for making change. As a member, you have a stronger voice and greater access to resources that can help you understand and analyze where and how you can help the breed. I love working with my fellow board members who share this dedication to the American Saddlebred and can put our collective heads together for the betterment of the breed.

What committees/councils/initiatives at the ASHBA will be or are you serving on as board member?

  • United Breeders Committee
  • Stallion Sweeps Committee
  • Breeders Challenge Committee

What are the top three challenges you believe the ASHBA Board should be working on?

  • Creating more amateur breeders of the American Saddlebred
  • Increasing the participation in our prize programs
  • Marketing the opportunities available to get more involved with the breed to our lesson students and academy division members

What is one thing most people do not know about you that you’d like to share?

My second greatest passions outside of horses are gardening and dogs. In addition to our horse training business we also a operate dog boarding, daycare, and grooming center.
