Saddlebreds Shine at Equitana USA

Published Date: Oct 09, 2021

The American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association (ASHBA) was onsite at the Equitana USA 2021 to #sharethesaddlebred at the Kentucky Horse Park! Equitana USA is a multi-day event that promotes the horse and the equine industry as a whole. This year, the event hosted clinics, panel discussions, industry experts, breeder organizations demonstrations, and a world-class shopping experience. As part of the event, ASHBA represented our breed and its versatility to an audience of equestrians who rarely get to experience the grace and beauty of the American Saddlebred. Through our breed education booth, live horse demonstrations and participating with in a clinic with Eventing Olympian, Phillip Dutton, the presence of the American Saddlebred at Equitana USA was obvious to all those in attendance.

Every day we witnessed love at first sight at the breed booth. Through the three days, visitors got to meet their first American Saddlebred, reconnect with the breed or learn more about the visually stunning and magnetically personable Riverdreams’ Remarcable. This exceptional nine-year-old gelding, owned by Dr. Owen Weaver DVM and trained by Autumn Hills Farm, was lent to ASHBA for the weekend to represent the breed each day at our breed meet & greet stall. We are incredibly grateful to have had such an accomplished and still active show horse on hand to draw in attendees and allow us to better educate attendees about our breed.

In addition to Riverdreams’ Remarcable, we were honored to have RWCC WC CH Ginger Magnolia from Diane Sembler Kamins and Visser Stables, Royal Crest’s Granite Permission and Lily Callahan, and Pursuit Of Perfection and Madelyn Leahey on hand for two days of breed demonstrations. It was a privilege to display such accomplished saddle seat and sport horse American Saddlebreds and Half Saddlebreds. Due to inclement weather, our third performance was unable to be held, but we are grateful to Desmar Stables for their volunteerism and support.

Another massive promotional opportunity for our breed at Equitana was the Phillip Dutton clinic. Phillip Dutton, a two-time Olympic gold medalist eventer, accepted Half-Saddlebred eventer Pursuit Of Perfection and Madelyn Leahey into his jumping clinic during the Saturday session.  Madelyn and her mare received very positive reviews from the Olympian!

ASHBA extends our deepest gratitude to the volunteers and demonstration participants without their time and generosity this fantastic #SharetheSaddlebred experience would not be possible. We were proud to have ASHBA Youth from the University of Kentucky (UK) Saddle Seat Team and UK Ag Equine Program to assist us throughout the weekend. A special thank you to Emily Brown, Allison Cordova, Lily Gerzenstang, Harrison Goode, Colby Hoover, Makayla James, Grace Porter, Ava Stachowski, and Angela Veshia. It was wonderful having these passionate young American Saddlebred enthusiasts be there to support and promote the breed they love.

About Equitana:

As the mother of all horse fairs and the world's largest meeting place for equestrian sports, EQUITANA has been setting standards since 1972. The first EQUITANA took place as a small trade fair in 1972 in the Essen exhibition halls and made a big impact in the equestrian sport industry: 180 exhibitors came to the first event, with 48,000 visitors the premiere was a complete success. Over the years, the "One Man Show" of 1972 has transformed into a world trade fair with huge dimensions. Today, the fair in Essen / Germany counts about 850 exhibitors from 30 nations and more than 200,000 visitors every two years.

The U.S. model follows the successful format of EQUITANA AUSTRALIA, which has been held since 1999 as the largest equestrian fair in Australia. In 2017, EQUITANA AUCKLAND was the first event in New Zealand to join the EQUITANA family.

EQUITANA USA is produced by Reed Exhibitions North America.  The Reed Exhibitions Germany office produces the show in Essen. Each year, Reed Exhibitions as an organization produces more than 500 events globally, in more than 40 countries, in 43 industry sections, and has more than 7 million annual visitors across these events.
