Millennium’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s
We are honored to announce that the November 2018 ASR Diplomat of the Breed is Millennium’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s (136631M). “Tiffany” is an American Saddlebred that defines and exceeds the expectations we could ever have for an applicant. This 17-year-old mare has fulfilled a far higher purpose than she was ever initially intended to. Tiffany has become a best friend, physical therapist, counselor and lifesaver for the Smith family that is blessed to call her theirs.
Tiffany was purchased in 2014 by the Smith Family of North Carolina for their daughter Ava to grow into and start her show career. Tiffany served this role to perfection. She and Ava shared great success in their show ring partnership. In 2015 they were the WTC 10 & Under Pleasure Champion at the National Academy Championship Horse Show. For this service alone Tiffany would be cherished by the Smith Family, but in 2016 Tiffany started a job that will forever have them in her debt. As Ava’s mother Jenifer explains, “Tiffany isn’t perfect. She has a peppermint addiction, and she is inexplicably terrified of butterflies. However, she is perfect for us. While Tiffany’s physical traits – her beauty, strength, “game,” and grace – are admirable, it is her non-physical traits that are most treasured...Tiffany has been a devoted companion during our daughter, Ava’s, most trying times.”
In February 2016 Tiffany began the role that made her a standout candidate for our November 2018 Diplomat of the Breed. In a moment the Smith’s whole world changed when Ava was diagnosed with an autoimmune neuropathy diagnosis that left her unable to walk for almost two years. From this moment on Tiffany changed from their daughter’s horse to the Smith family’s most important partner for Ava’s recovery both emotionally and physically. Riding is part of Ava’s physical therapy and has made Tiffany a major factor in her progress.
Unlike some human companions, Tiffany expresses no judgment regarding Ava’s medical condition and has passed that on to others who see Ava ride her. To all those who observe Ava with Tiffany, they quickly learn that anything is possible with grit, determination, love and some help from friends – both animal and human, alike.
The Smiths are forever grateful to Tiffany, “We trust her with our most precious gift, Ava, every day” said Ava’s mother, Jenifer. Tiffany offers unbridled affection to Ava, sensing when she needs it the most. Tiffany at just the right moments will wrap her long neck around Ava’s torso for comfort. Tiffany has adapted to the extra demands brought on my Ava’s condition. She is accepting of the wheelchair and she stands at complete attention so Ava can be assisted in mounting her without fear of falling off. Ava rides at Lenux Stables & Riding Academy multiple times a week to continue her “ride to recovery.”
Tiffany has played an enormous role in Ava’s recovery motivating Ava to push forward so she can ride and show. Tiffany in the eyes of the Smith Family and the community around Ava vow she is the best physical therapist in existence. As the Smith’s vow “what Tiffany has done for Ava and our family gives new meaning to “horsepower.” Who would have known when we bought Tiffany how much she would change our lives? She is a special girl and to say she helped save our daughter’s life is not an overstatement.”
Millennium’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s (136631M) is a testament to the American Saddlebred breed, and we are thankful to the Smith Family for sharing her story. May we all learn from Tiffany and Ava’s story the power of love and dedication between a horse and rider and remember to appreciate the kind and devoted nature of the American Saddlebred.
