ASR Diplomat of the Breed- Red-Shirt Freshman
We are pleased to announce the July 2019 ASR Diplomat of the Breed sponsored by Freedman's is Red-Shirt Freshman (117526G). He is a thirteen-year-old American Saddlebred gelding that has given back as much as he has received to bring hope and healing to those who have been there for him. For his impact on the breed and those that love them he will receive a custom halter from Freedman's Harness to show the world his is a diplomat of the great American Saddlebred breed!
"I adopted Red-Shirt Freshman, a Reserve World Champion son of Slam Dunk H.G., with the intent of rehabbing him thru PTSD. Little did I know, he would assist solving my own issues of grief and buried anger. I have gained love of God, country, personal freedom, empowerment, and true healing. It is true the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a soul. Red-Shirt Freshman changed my whole outlook on training. He needed a different job and I wanted to give him something different to think about, so that is how the flag came into the picture. He was afraid of the flag at first, so it took about two weeks before I could carry the flag while on his back. We have both returned to the show ring to promote the versatility of the American Saddlebred while saluting our country with our flag presentation. Red-Shirt Freshman loves to carry the flag, and especially likes to pick it up on the run. In addition, I hope our ride will inspire others to pair up with an American Saddlebred as a method to journey past life’s unexpected struggles." – Lisa Worrell Whittle.
